Zomato No Longer Has A Place In The IIT Campus Placements Buffet

on

AIPC, the All-IIT’s Placement Committee has decided to bar and blacklist Zomato from the IIT placement this year. According to Economic Times, the decision has been confirmed by at least six IIT’s – Delhi, Bombay, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahatii and Kanpur.

The decision comes on the heels of Zomato’s spat with IIT-Delhi earlier this year in July. The restaurant search guide which is now a unicorn company valued at over $1 billion was denied a day one slot as recruiter as its salty offers amounting to a total of Rs 26 lakh was too low. Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal took to Twitter to express his disappointment and vent against the alma matter about the placement scenario.

“No company should take the IIT system for granted,” the placements head at one of the top IITs said.

According to Economic Times, campus sources say that the Twitter outburst by Goyal played a significant part in the ban.

“Any company which violates the procedural guidelines laid down by the AIPC may be blacklisted,” says Atal Ashutosh Agarwal, Vice-President, Technology Students’ Gymkhana at IIT-Kharagpur.

The Ugly Truth?

Zomato also has run into some other trouble lately with disgruntled employees coming out to talk about the working conditions at Zomato. Zomato has also had trouble retaining senior-level staff with most of them leaving after short stints. CEO Deeper Goyal is also not happy with his sales team, sending the staff an email to inform about the same. For the first time in five years, Zomato will not meet its target revenue.
